Cleaning Cranberry Juice, Red Wine & Other Christmas Holiday Stains in Your South Boston, MA House

For those that celebrate Christmas with a merriment feast, it is just around the corner. With the chaos of company, the hustle of preparations and servings, and all the excitement that flutters with the anticipated holiday, accidents are a common occurrence. To help fight the stains that can result in the accidental spills, we at Nadia’s House Cleaning would like to offer some tips and suggestions on removing the blemish.

Cleaning Cranberry Sauce & Juice Stains

With a spoon or dulled edge implement, scrape up the excess sauce; dab it on a paper towel or paper plate for easy disposal. Mix together 2 cups cool water, ½ tsp dishwashing soap, and 1 tbsp white vinegar. Sponge the solution onto the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes. Dab with a clean damp cloth until the stain dissipates. If the stain only lightens, soak a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and dab the remaining residue. Follow up with a damp cloth to rinse away the cleaning remnants.

Red Wine Stain Removal

Using paper towels immediately blot the excess liquid. After the moisture is fully absorbed from the blotting, take a different clean towel and place it over the stain and stand on it to draw up the liquid that settled deeper in the carpet. Do not over saturate, but moderately spray the area with a spray bottle of cool water. Blot the area again. Mix together 1 Tbsp white vinegar, 1 tbsp dishwashing liquid, and 2 cups warm water. Dampen a cloth or sponge with the solution and dab the stain. Be sure to blot in between applications with a dry cloth to avoid over saturation. After the stain is clear, use a damp cloth to rinse the cleaner. Place a dry towel on top of the area and some weights to absorb the moisture.

How to Remove Gravy Stains

Scoop up the bulk of gravy with a spoon; be sure to have a paper towel or other disposable implement for easy disposal. Do not rub or scrub the area, but use additional paper towels to blot the area. With your fingers and a pinch of concentrated dish soap, massage the fibers to work out the gravy. Rinse with a water bottle of pure water and a damp cloth. With a laundry pre-wash stain remover, pre-treat the remaining stain. After 30 minutes, use a clean damp cloth to blot the area clean. If the stain persists, use an enzyme cleaner according the label’s directions.

How to Remove Blood Stains from Knife Cuts

Always get medical attention first! Once the emergency has been dealt with, no matter how minor, quickly blot the blood stain with paper towels. Lightly mist the area with cool water and blot up the liquid again. Mix according to the materials the blood stain is inflicting:
Wool: Combined 1 tsp mild, non-alkali detergent and 1 cup of water.
Synthetic fibers: Mix 2 TBS household ammonia and 1 cup cold water.
Oriental rugs: combined 1 part white vinegar with 2 parts cold water.
Apply the appropriate solution to the blood stain and with a clean damp cloth, dab up the blood. As the blood absorbs into the cloth, be sure to use areas that are blood free and if necessary use a new cloth if the original is over encumbered with blood. Rinse the area once blood is lifted and use a clean dry cloth to blot the area dry.
