How Do You Declutter a Messy Office in Milton, MA? Assessing Contents, Daily Cleaning, Organizing & More

In any atmosphere, but especially the office, clutter can feel chaotic and stressful. Every time you try to work in a cluttered environment, you may even notice that your productivity and effectiveness is lowered. We at Nadia’s House Cleaning would like to offer a few decluttering tips and organization advice in order to help boost your mood and performance.

How Do You Organize a Cluttered Office?

1) Clear Out Everything. It is best to start from scratch for a truly clean and organized workspace. Everything from the drawers, desktop, and shelves needs to be removed. Place them in neat piles on the floor or in another room. Take the time to wipe down all surfaces and clean off your computer equipment now that your desk is empty.
2) Assess the Contents. It is easier to determine what you really need once you know what you have, though it may seem like a daunting task. How many pens, folders, pens, sticky notes and other supplies you’ve had this whole time can be found, and it may surprise you.
Create three piles: stuff to keep, items to archive and junk to throw out while going through your office items. Things you will need for daily and weekly work should be left in the keep category. All of the important documents and information that must be kept but doesn’t need to be in direct eyesight every day should be labeled in the archive section. Archive category can also be grouped into two sub-groups: one for yearly storage and another for long-term storage. Items you can throw away or donate can be filed with the junk.
3) Rearrange Your Space if Possible. Analyze your layout if your office space regularly gets cluttered soon after clean-up. For easy access, the items that you use every day should be kept close to you. In order to keep your desk space clutter-free, stuff that don’t get used often can be stored in drawers or shelves.
4) Strategically Use Shelves & Dividers. Dividers can help if you’re prone to throwing items in drawers and letting them stay scattered and disheveled. While drawer dividers keep small office items separated, organized and easy to locate, hanging shelves can organize binders, manuals, reference materials and other paperwork.
5) Replace Items in Respective Places. Put your items in their organized spaces now that you know which items you want to keep and how close in proximity they should be. To help the entire office look clutter-free, try to keep your desk space as neat and clear as possible.
6) Daily Cleaning. Once you have decluttered your office, you want to maintain it. Put items back in their designated spots after using your desk each day. File papers and return binders to bookshelves and put pens in holders. To help keep germs at bay, wipe down your desk with a disinfectant wipe. You can help keep your space organized for longer by tidying up every day.
