How to Clean Window Aluminum, Plastic & Other Blinds the Easy Way in Your Chelsea, MA House

Cleaning the blinds are one of many of the small chores frequently neglected and as the holiday season marches up quickly, getting our home guest ready includes cleaning every nook and cranny and especially the areas that may have gone a little longer in between cleaning than they should have. The blinds easily accumulate layers of dust and debris that continually assault the nasal passages and induce allergies. A simple use of the feather duster once or twice a week can really help prevent excess dust from building up, but in the event that you, like so many people, forgot about the blinds during your cleaning endeavors, would like to share some tips and advice on how you can give your blinds a detailed cleaning beyond the feather duster method.

How to Clean Aluminum, Plastic, Wood & Fabric Blinds

All sort of blinds can be cleaned, from metal, wood, vinyl and to any type of fabric, cleaning and maintenance for your blinds is simple and when applied to routine cleaning, the blinds are easily cleaned.
1) With your vacuum’s hose and brush upholstery attachment, run the hose across the blinds in conjunction with the way they are designed. Horizontal blinds should be cleaned going from side to side and vertical blinds cleaned up and down.
2) A lamb’s wool duster is the optimal choice to clear the light layers of dust off the blinds, again, run the duster across the surface in the same direction they are designed. Avoid using the cheaper plastic duster as they have a tendency to smear the dust.
3) Avoid brushing or dusting in an opposing fashion, as that could unhook the blinds.
4) For fabric and vinyl blinds, use a rubber sponge, also known as a dry sponge, to firmly wipe away the dust.
5) Never spray any cleaner directly on the blinds; instead, spray you all-purpose surface cleaner onto a clean micro-fiber cloth and wipe the area for your spot cleaning needs.
6) Wooden blinds are cleaned the same as fabric and vinyl blinds are, just never allow them to be wet, as moisture could warp the wood.
7) When fabric blinds become stained and spotted, have a professional clean them.
8) Cleaning the blinds should be done so assembled and spot cleaned as mention in tip #5. Never disassemble the blinds or soak them in any kind of cleaner or water.
9) To deeply clean vinyl or metal blinds, take the blind down as a unit and place it across a surface the driveway, patio, or other location that can be soaked. Mix a few drops of liquid dish soap in a large bucket of water. With a soft-bristle brush, sponge the mixture onto the blind as you gently scrub them clean in the same direction as they were designed. Rinse them down and flip them over carefully, brushing the back side in the same manner. Use the hose to rinse thoroughly with only minimal pressure. To avoid water drop stains from occurring, squeegee each individual strip. Hang them over a fence or rail to allow for optimal drying.
