How to Deep Clean a Kitchen, Bathroom & Winthrop, MA House or Apartment Before Moving in

Moving into a “new to you” home, whether it makes you a homeowner or if it is a rental, is an exciting adventure, one filled with plenty of responsibilities, arrangements, and stress to carry. More than likely, the previous tenants maybe cleaned up a bit, but they didn’t clean. Even to get a security deposit back requires the minimum like vacuuming the floors and getting the hairball out of the sink. But once you have gotten a chance to look around, the not so obvious tasks scream out at you; dust on the baseboards and ceiling fan, spots on the windows, smudges on the mirrors, and crusty gunk on the surfaces around the home tells you the house needs work. If possible, it is best to get your home clean before you move in the boxes allows for a more efficient clean and faster process. With that in mind, we at Nadia’s House Cleaning would like to offer some suggestions as to what needs cleaning before moving in.

If you intend to take on the cleaning yourself, consider the time and plan ahead before the boxes move in.
Cabinets & Kitchen Deep Clean: Ovens, microwaves, vent hoods, stoves and refrigerators should be the first task. Any appliance that can be moved should be pulled out to clean out. These appliances should be cleaned inside and out; sanitized and deodorized. Tackle the cabinets drawers and pantry and ensure all the crumbs and debris is cleaned and wipe down the shelves along with other storage areas. Use paper towels and tossing them in the trash after every different surface is disinfectant will minimize recontamination. With warm soapy water, wipe down the walls and vents. Shine the mirrors and clean the tub. Remove any debris from the drawers, cabinets, and medicine cabinets. Sweep the floors and mop them well. A professional can perform a deep cleaning on the tile and grout to remove the rooted grit and grime.
Miscellaneous Deep Cleaning: Give any existing blinds a thorough dusting and dust off the window sill and wash the windows. Clean off any other ceiling fans, baseboards, linen closets and storage space as applicable. With a disinfectant, wipe all door knobs and light switches. Wipe down the walls to remove layers of dust and any cobwebs. Clean all the floors according to type; vacuum carpets, dust mop wood floors, sweep tile.
