Tidying Up Following a Halloween Party

Halloween parties generates big messes. You likely have a big cleanup on your hands, especially if food and beverages were served. Check for stains after picking up the trash and giving everything a thorough clean. Any costume makeup stains can be removed with rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover for most surfaces. Always blot stains, use a clean, water damp cloth to remove residual cleaner and dry as best you can with a clean dry rag or towel.

Throw Out Old Rotting Pumpkins

Unless you preserved them, the carved pumpkins squatting outside your door have rotted significantly and are pretty disgusting. In either the outside garbage bin or in your composter, dispose the rotting pumpkin. You could squirt toothpaste onto a damp washcloth if the pumpkins left behind a moldy residue on your wooden porch or stool. Work the toothpaste into the stain and then clean with soap and warm water.

Tips to Remove Chocolate Stains

Chocolate stains are highly probable, especially with kids passing through your home. Quick Chocolate Stain Removal:
– Clothing: Dab a damp sponge on the chocolate spot, follow with a clothing stain remover. Let it soak in an oxygen-based bleach solution for six hours for stubborn stains.
– Carpet & Upholstery: Apply a mixture of water and dish washing liquid to the stain with a washcloth. Allow the mixture a few minutes to break down the stain. From the outside working inwards, blot the stain.

Best Way to Clean Up Glitter

One of the most challenging things to clean is probably glitter. It never seems to completely go away no matter how much you sweep or vacuum. In fact, when you’re putting out your Christmas decorations, you may find residual Halloween glitter. Dusting wipes can be helpful for hard surfaces. Try silly putty or tape if you still have glitter. Begin by vacuuming if the glitter is on your carpet or furniture. Also, you can use a lint roller or a carpet broom and then vacuum again if the glitter persists. Static electricity can attract glitter, so as a last resort, trying rubbing an inflated balloon over the area.

Easiest Way to Remove Gum & Wax

Gum and wax can be particularly aggravating. Use a sealed bag of ice to get the gum cold if you have gum stuck to fabric or carpet. You’ll need to use a stain remover made for the fabric if the gum left a stain. Also, use the ice method and scrape it away if you have wax on your hard surface floors. It may also work on upholstery or carpets, but if not, hold a hot iron about 6 inches above the wax after you place a cloth, paper towel, or scratch plain paper directly on top of the wax. It will then transfer to the cloth.
