How to Dissolve Soap Residue on Shower Doors, Stalls, Bathtubs & Other Bathroom Areas in Boston, MA

Soap scum is not what most people think it is. Soap scum is dirt, body oils, sloughed off skin, and bacteria which turns into a mineral that forms on the sides of shower and bath tubs. Knowing this makes any homeowner cringe, and probably makes you run to go clean your showers and tubs. However when you tackle the soap scum, you might find it is quite stubborn to remove. Nadias House Cleaning will share a few easier methods to help clean that nasty soap scum from off your tubs and showers.

Best Way to Clean & Remove Soap Scum from Shower Doors, Stalls & Other Bathroom Areas

There are a few methods that work well to remove soap scum. Some will work better than others. A lot of it will depend on how long the soap scum has been lingering on the shower or bath tubs. If the first method doesn’t seems to do the trick, try another one. Make sure to thoroughly rinse the surface first and don’t mix the different cleaning solutions.
First Soap Residue Dissolving Method – Borax
Borax is a natural mineral and is a common cleaning agent used to combat soap scum. However most make the mistake of using it alone to fight the soap scum. There is a mixture that enhances the borax cleaner. Create a mixture of 1 cup of borax, 2 tablespoons of liquid dish soap, and 1 or 2 cups of water. You will want to make a mixture with the same consistency of a slightly thicker pancake batter. Use a soft bristled brush to spread the paste-like borax solution on the soap scum. Then allow the mixture to stand for 15 minutes. After you have waited the 15 minutes use the scrub brush and begin scrubbing at the soap scum. Once you are finished, thoroughly rinse the cleaning solution away.
Second Method to Clean Soap Scum from Showers etc – Baking Soda
Another method to removing soap scum is baking soda. Most know baking soda is good for removing odor but with the right mixture you can also use it for removing soap scum. To create a mixture to remove soap scum start by combining 1 cup of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap and 2 cups of water. You will want to make it the same consistency of pancake batter again. Use the same directions as before; spread the mixture on the soap scum then allow it to stand for 15 minutes. Afterward, use a scrub brush to remove the soap scum and rinse it with hot water thoroughly.
Third Method to Remove Soap Residue- Vinegar
Vinegar is really the all purpose house cleaner. For removing soap scum, use 4 cups of white vinegar, 4 cups of water and 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap. This solution needs to be sprayed on using a spray bottle. After you have completely sprayed over the soap scum, allow the cleaner to stand for 15 to 20 minutes to break down the soap scum. Then use a brush to scrub at the soap scum until it begins to dissolve. Again rinse the sides of the shower or bath tub with water thoroughly.
