How to Clean Christmas Tree & Other Holiday Messes in Your Somerville, MA House

When it comes to cleaning and keeping a mess minimal, there are some things people can handle, and other things that drive people insane. When getting the house ready for the Christmas décor, more often than not, a chaotic mess is made in the process, and the person who pride’s themselves on a clean house may find the catastrophe unbearable. On the other hand, perhaps keeping the mess to a minimal is needed for specific circumstances. No matter what the reasons are, you want your home to stay as clean as possible during the transition from everyday décor to holiday magic. With that in mind, we at Nadia’s House Cleaning would like to take the opportunity to offer some suggestions on how to keep the home fairly tidy while getting it ready for Christmas tree.

Tips to Keep Your House Clean this Christmas & Holiday Season

1) Lights. The cords can be an eye sore, to keep them out of view, tape them down tucked away; for both exterior and interior lighting. Keeping the messy and clumsy looking cords out of the way not only makes it look neater, but it also is safer to avoid tripping.
2) Perfect Christmas Tree. Everyone wants the best looking tree. According to individual style, some prefer tall and narrow, or small and humble, or fluffy beyond fluffy, getting a freshly cut tree should pass a quality inspection or it will not last the season; leaving you a mess.
– First pull gingerly on a few needles, if there is little to no resistance, it is of poor quality at that get go.
– Second shake a few limbs, if the limbs feel especially brittle, or needles fall excessively, another quality test fail.
– Third assess the bottom of the stump; if you discover the absence of a sticky resin coating, it indicates the tree was quite a time ago and is already dried out.
A fresher tree is less flammable, drops less needles over the course of the Christmas tree season, and smells fresher.
3) Safety. Additionally, fresh trees, or any tree for that matter, should be setup away from fireplaces and heating vents. Fresh trees are particularly susceptible to catching fire. Ensure your fresh cut tree has a stand that is designed to hold water. Keeping your tree hydrated will prolong a needle mess and reduce its dryness and capableness to fires.
4) Fragile. Little curious hands can be problematic with the fragile breakable ornaments and decorations. Be sure to set them appropriately out of reach to avoid broken glass and cut feet and hands.
6) Seasonal Candle Scents. The seasonal scents are always an incredible touch, but they can be messy as well as hazardous if mistreated. Instead of authentic candles, especially if little ones are in the home, opt for electronic candles to give off the ambiance and look for plug-ins to get the fragrance you are looking for. If you prefer the use of authentic candles, keep them away from flammable materials as well as glass surfaces that will emphasize the smoky film. To contain the drizzly wax, use a dish under the candles for easy cleanup. Ensure they are set in places where they are not likely to be knocked over or little kids can’t reach them. Always blow them out when you leave the home or go to bed.
